| Generation of high-quality, educational publications has been at the forefront of AOS activities since the organization's beginnings more than eight decades ago. Indeed, the first step of the newly formed AOS was to compile a list of orchids found and grown in America . Harvard professor Oakes Ames and his wife, Blanche, volunteered for the task. In 1924, Ames' groundbreaking study, An Enumeration of the Orchids of the United States and Canada, was published. In June 1932, came the first issue of what would become the Society’s flagship publication, the AOS Bulletin, a journal published quarterly for a few years, then every other month, then (with occasional color added) every month, until today, the full-color, award-winning Orchids magazine is the premier monthly orchid magazine produced in the world today. |
